secrets

and this is my little side project that I am currently in the middle of casting

trinkets

and this is as far as I have got in turning the slabs into trinket boxes

voila

I dried out the plaster slabs in the kiln for about 3 hours up to 100 degrees. Once dry, I used slip and poured it over the plaster slabs and peeled it off when it was not quite leatherhard

I've then cast the square slabs with plaster... the heat from the plaster released lots of flowery vapours.

helicopters

I've been collecting leaves, acorns, helicopters and other autumn stuffs. I've been laying these in clay or pressing them into clay to create the relief.

Been away for a while - slaving away in full time employment. but, I've decided, life is too short. i miss clay too much.

New animals to cast and fairy cake stand designs....
I'm going to try using just one animal rather than lots around the edge and see how that works, I am also going to try out illustrating on parts of the plate. These are the new animals that I am currently in the middle of casting!

The plate cast has come out beautifully and I can't wait to make the first clay cast of it. Both the front and the back of it are nice shapes. I'm just waiting for it to dry out...

First cast of the rabbit I have done. He's going to be sitting on my new fairy cake stands.

Cast half of the frame shape! Just waiting for my order of materials from Castree Kilns until I can finish it off. Just realised that they have a shop on ebay, and they are also the cheapest suppliers in South Wales!

Starting to sketch some designs for the frame shape I have cast....Going to experiment with design on the outer and the inner part, as well as some 2d and 3d pattern. Just deciding on whether to use inlay or transfers, or both!

Artist: Cinnamon Art

Loving the classic plate shapes of this artist. It's the kind of shape I'm hoping my cast will come out like. Unfortunately their blog is in chinese so I can't read it, or figure out how to translate it!

Newly found figures from good old Splott Market. Cast the rabbit. Deliberating whether to use them as they are or cast them all. Do I want to use them over and over, or do I want to help the environment and produce some one off masterpieces ....

New piece number one. Found yee olde plate for bread - (complete with text - give us this day our daily bread), decided the back of it looked much more interesting than the front so took about 7 pints of plaster, and have cast it! Not quite sure what I'm going to do with it, surface ideas to come....
